It all started with a gold watch…
In early March of 2009 my friend Lena and I were at a local bar having a few drinks and lamenting the current status of our love lives. She had recently been let down by a non suitor, suitor and I was for the 4th time in 6 years “talking” to my ex again. Naturally as the only two eligible women, at a sports bar famous for its 50 cent hot wings, on a weeknight, we were getting a lot of unwanted attention. Fortunately for Stephen and I a very persistent blond gentleman struck up a conversation with me in an attempt to get closer to Lena. We chatted about what he did for work, about Lena, about L.A, more about Lena, about me and more about how hot Lena was. The unnamed gentleman fancied himself a bit of a fortune teller and I desperate for someone to tell me to leave my ex for the 5th time indulged him. Now I wont tell you everything he said but I will share the important parts. He assured me that my ex was not the man for me. He told me that I would, before my birthday, which is in October, meet the man I was going to marry. That he would be someone I had never met before, He would love me for exactly who I was and to look out for a gold watch!   Traveling that summer I met all kinds of men and when I was introduced I checked their wrist for a watch. I met a skydiver in Arizona whose watch had altitude settings on it telling him when to open his parachute. His watch literally saved his life. When I met him I thought for sure that meant his watch was a “gold” watch. I met a guy from Colorado who wore a bright orange watch and thought to myself “well orange is a gold color”. I met a man in Costa Rica who wore a white watch and I thought it was bright, flashy and stood out. Kinda like gold right?   When I met Stephen June 6th 2009 at a friends birthday party he wasn’t even wearing a watch. I was however drawn to him. I gave him my number and few nights later he took me out for our first date. The worst date ever. I was very jaded. I didn’t see Stephen for who he was. I saw him for who I thought he was.  Stephen wasn’t deterred. He kept trying and texting. He sent me funny jokes, pictures of bunnies and dogs he liked in his neighborhood. One afternoon he texted a photo of himself petting Lulla Bell, a dog who lives near his apartment and something caught my eye. He was wearing a watch. A watch I’d never seen before, a GOLD watch. We got married August of 2011 and just closed on our first house. We move in August 2012 just in time for our first anniversary!!!
